Mechanisms of Geomagnetic Field Influence on Gene Expression Using Influenza as a Model System: Basics of Physical Epidemiology

Recent studies demonstrate distinct changes in gene expression in cells exposed to a weak magnetic field (MF). Mechanisms of this phenomenon are not understood yet. We propose that proteins of the Cryptochrome family (CRY) are “epigenetic sensors” of the MF fluctuations, i.e., magnetic field-sensitive part of the epigenetic controlling mechanism. It was shown that CRY represses activity of the major circadian transcriptional complex CLOCK/BMAL1. At the same time, function of CRY, is apparently highly responsive to weak MF because of radical pairs that periodically arise in the functionally active site of CRY and mediate the radical pair mechanism of magnetoreception. It is known that the circadian complex influences function of every organ and tissue, including modulation of both NF-κB- and glucocorticoids- dependent signaling pathways. Thus, MFs and solar cycles-dependent geomagnetic field fluctuations are capable of altering expression of genes related to function of NF-κB, hormones and other biological regulators. Notably, NF-κB, along with its significant role in immune response, also participates in differential regulation of influenza virus RNA synthesis. Presented data suggests that in the case of global application (example—geomagnetic field), MF-mediated regulation may have epidemiological and other consequences

    Classification of filtered multichannel images

    No full text
International audienceA typical tendency in modern remote sensing (RS) is to apply multichannel systems. Images formed by them are in more or less degree noisy. Thus, their pre-filtering can be used for different purposes, in particular, to improve classification. In this paper, we consider methods of multichannel image denoising based on discrete cosine transform (DCT) and analyze how parameters of these methods affect classification. Both component-wise and 3D denoising is studied for three-channel Landsat test image. It is shown that for better determination of different classes, DCT based filters, both component-wise and 3D variants are efficient, but with a different tuning of involved parameters. The parameters can be optimized with respect to either standard MSE or metrics that characterize image visual quality. Best results are obtained with 3D denoising. Although the main conclusions basically coincide for both considered classifiers, Radial Basis Function Neural Network (RBF NN) and Support Vector Machine (SVM), the classification results appear slightly better with RBF NN for the experiment carried out in this paper

Development of the Optimal Composition and the Technology of New Combined Injectable Drug with Prolonged Action Based on Disulfiram and Naltrexone

ABSTRACT New injectable combined prolonged drug "Naltetlong" containing disulfiram and naltrexone was developed. An optimal pharmaceutical form and polymers-prolongers with a certain molecular weight were chosen based on experimental research. Conditions of interaction of the polymer-carrier of active substances for saving molecules structures of drugs components and formation of particles in the nanospheres form with a uniform size distribution were proposed. Uniform distribution size provides the prolongation of drug activity. The predictable product performance was identified and was equal to 30 days. Preclinical studies of toxicity and specific activity of the combined preparation "Naltetlong" indicate a pronounced pharmacological activity and moderate toxicity. Preliminary data on the use of "Naltetlong" in the treatment of alcohol and drug addiction have shown the prospects of its application for the treatment and rehabilitation of patients
